Join Us In Supporting The National Federation Cedar Reforestation Initiative In Lebanon

by Albert F. Johary, MD

National Federation President and Foundation Cultural Director

The Cedars of Lebanon (Cedrus libani) are on the verge of becoming extinct. The National Federation of Syrian Lebanese Americans has joined forces with Jouzour Loubnan to help replant cedar trees in the cedar forests.

During a ceremony on June 15th, Jouzour Loubnan, along with the Municipality of Bcharri and the Department of Tourism will recognize our organization by planting 10 Cedar Trees in the name of the National Federation on behalf of the Southern and Midwest Federations.

We would like to encourage you all to plant a cedar tree in honor of your family name, in memory of a loved one, or in honor of your local club or Federation. What better way to honor your heritage?

The cost to adopt a cedar is as follows:
- $20 for a 1- to 2-year-old Cedrus libani (add $15 for a personalized metal name tag on your tree)
- $60 for an 8- to 10-year-old Cedrus libani (add $15 for a personalized metal name tag on your tree)

Your one-time fee covers the plantation, nurturing, and protection of each planted tree. You will receive a certificate with the gps coordinates of your tree via email. Those traveled to Lebanon with us this year received their certificates in hand. Trees that perish during the first year will be replaced free of charge by Jouzour Loubnan.

To participate, go to www.adoptacedar.org and select BOTH the box that states that “this is a gift” AND the box that states “this is for an event.” Under the “gift” box, you will be able to select the name of the person or club you would like to honor. Under the event box, you will be able to select “National Federation Reforestation Initiative” so that Jouzour Loubnan will know you are donating on behalf of our organization. Afterwards, you can designate whether you want a personalized metal name tag attached to your donated tree and if you want a picture of your tree/ name tag.
